A bit last minute...I am making a 2013 calendar for my shop.
It's about 11" long, single sided. Thought this can be my last project for Pikachi Double before the year ends. The bookmarks should be here sometime next week, and I have about 80 holiday cards to write, it's going to be a busy week!
Renegade tomorrow, and if I have the time I'll try to print this out this weekend :)
I had a real eventful weekend! Went to Unique LA on Saturday and I bumped into so many people!
It was a little crowded than usual, but still was an amazing show!
I was glad to show my new friends this event, they really enjoyed it.
Sunday was the JLPT at USC, I was selected to be a proctor and that pretty much took the whole day. It was my first time at USC too, it's a really nice and beautiful campus, I should've brought my camera and toys ;)
and...Ursula base is done, I'm going to work on the textures soon.
I'm gathering ideas for an upcoming illustraion, I wanna draw girls~~~
I'm looking forward to Unique LA this weekend, I've always love their show and the types of stuff vendors offer. Especially it's a Holiday edition, I'm allowing myself to spend money during this season :P
This week is going by really fast, it's almost December! and I think SoCal is officialy in the rainy season...free car wash!
The letterpress class has now come to an end, I really wish it can keep going!
3 hours per week is not enough, I want to learn so much more and the time just goes by so fast...
It was a really neat experience to do these projects, our last one is business cards and I took this opportunity to get our Three26 card started, here is the finish look of the letterpress business cards :)
Before the end of 2012 I'll try to get together with the classsmates and practice with the machines and letters, I can probably start on something new and fun along the way, who knows?
this is a sneak peak (?) actually WIP of the bookmark I'm designing ;)
I think bookmarks are important, I still prefer reading books instead of e-book, usually I use the library receipt as my bookmark so I won't forget the due date.
I've been feeling sick lately, probably because of the weather, work, sleep and my terrible posture, everything adds up and now I'm a bit worry about my health. I hope it's nothing serious, because I really dislike going to the doctor.
Over the weekend I went to Designer Con in Pasadena, it was fun and inspiring, toys, art and design, I am loving it all! It was definitely bigger than last year, more artists and tables, and it's always good to see old friends too :) Three26 (that's our official name of our business) will be selling our art next year, it's going to happen, I'm sure.
Last week in the letterpress class, we started setting up our types. I realized that I can spend hours in this process and still find it interesting :) Although it can be frustrating sometimes when the size isn't right, but I like how there's multiple ways of doing things, and especially when you have total control over this project, you can enjoy it a lot more, I think.
Tomorrow I will try to get to class earlier and start printing, oh! and I can't wait to see my first plate!
So far the online store is pretty much all set up, besides some minor details which I still need to work on. These button sets are going to be available in the store, and also at the PMX! I will definitely post again once the store is up and running :)
I took my first letterpress class 2 days ago, the instructor was the talented Madeleine Zygarewicz, owner of Panorama Press. I met her first time earlier this year at Unique LA and I really loved her work, I finally had the chance and time to register her class, now I'm really excited about the projects we'll be doing :)
Over the weekend I went to the Printers Fair in Los Angeles, the event was held at the international printing museum. It was my first time visiting a printing fair, it was very exciting and cool, especially I got to learn more about letterpress :)
Yesterday I got my postcard done, hot off the press! I'm happy with the result, colors are fine and the stock is stick, I'm not complaining. I started working on the packaging and here's the final look.
I've been working on the packaging for a few days now, went to paper source and michael's for ideas and here's what I have so far
one thing I love about making these is that I make my own decision, colors, shapes and everything, it's all about the freedom!
When I was in Japan, a teacher gave me her handmade rubber stamp as a gift, she carved my name and I thoguht it was the best present ever, one of a kind! So I decided to incorporate that into my label, adds a bit of personal taste to it.
The pokemon stamps are just for decoration, I will put them on the postcard sets which I finally submitted to print.
My friend Stefanie showed me a video today, it's the new Bat Man of Shangahi animation clip. The style is pretty cool but the animation is neat! I don't know when it will be out but we are already doing little fan art of the sexy cat woman :)
Here's another set of the prints I'm doing, it's actually a commission but I'm thinking about making them into my collection. The theme is New Year "Shin-Nen", I wanted to put Western and Eastern New Year elements in there, I thought it would have a nice contrast :)
A little preview of the new prints I'm going to sell at the up coming convention, I called it "natsuyasumi", which means "summer vacation" in Japanese. On the left is the Poliwag line, with a bit of summer feel to it, with watermelon and uchiwa fans. On the right is the Dragonite line, the theme is postal greeting / letter writing. I always write lots of postcards for postcrossing during summer, last week I received tons of postcard from my friend Apple, including the London Olympics cards, it's also nice to see where my friends are travelling during their summer vacation, makes me happy when I read the message :)
