Calendar in the making

So what's next after the holiday cards? :)

I did a very simple calendar for 2013 end of last year, but you know, I've always wanted to do a proper desktop style calendar.  I spent some time searching for a good pricing for this kind of style earlier this year so I can be prepared when the time comes, unfortunately a lot of them requires a big order and it was just out of my budget.  So I forgot about it and until recently some people started to ask me if I'm making one again this year.

So I decided to go for it (why am I always doing things last minute?)

 

Some of you might know I have a photography site, throughout the years I've been doing it as a hobby.  When I'm not doing conventions during weekends I usually go out and take photos of my toys.  I picked out some of my favorite shots along with ones that got great feedbacks on instagram, it's gonna look refreshing and I can't wait to show you the finish product end of this month!

Yep! I'm doing the card project again this year.

 

Last year I told myself I would start doing this after September, because I hate making things last minute, ughh! Especially after couting the days that needed for printing and sending out, holiday season always comes way too fast  >_<;;

 

Well, anyway!

This time I'm not doing it digitally (well not for the most part), the art will be done with watercolor/color pencils, because I want to go for a hand drawn/traditional look.  

Also the paper will be a little different, so I'm excited how this will turn out, as long as the printer do not fail me....

 

 

 

PMX preview

I can't believe it's been a year!  I debuted at PMX last year, selling postcards and few button sets in Artist alley... it was my first con and I only had a little things....

 

Well well...

This year I'm at Exhibit Hall Booth 501!  

I'm partnering up with my friends so our booth will have lots of variety and cute things!

Frank & Son Collectible Show

Wow what a productive weekend I just had!

I'm happy to announce that my buddy and I got a little space to sell some of the products at Frank & Son Collectible Show in City of Industry, California!  We are in a glass box located at booth #405 and we'll be there until the New Years, so please come check it out if you are in the area :)

Over the weekend I had more practice on the watercolors and since I was going for a softer look I think this sample came out nice :)

I kept forgeting to take photos of the progress, so I set a timer this time!!

 

 

I also tried drawing a Game of Thrones fanart, but because I have never watched the show I only drew what I know...I think her name is Daenerys? I like her because she's pretty XD

Times goes by so fast, I can't believe it's already the moon cake day! or BBQ day according to my Dad :)

My first time drawing Meowstic, I thought they look really adorable and mysterious, so I plan to do some kind of Halloween theme with them XD

Practice

On Saturday I had a bit of practice on watercolor and watercolor pencils.  I wanted to try to get a more fine, detail look so I tried a different approach this time, leaving the pencil outline more visible and applied watercolor first, then going back in with the colored pencils to get that stroke feel.  

 Definitely takes more time to do but I do love the texture that colored pencil can do.
Blending still needs more practice so...

I tried to do a few more doodles :)

Prints!

The large prints are available in my shop now, they are all pretty big but I'll make sure to pack them nicely so they won't be bend.  

I usually have them with me when I go to conventions, so you can request a pick up if you are going to the same con, just let me know :)

Currently working on these new button sets :3

Dragonite and Togepi lines have been asked quite often at conventions, so I've decided to make extras for these to sell, they will be available online next month and the next con (PMX?) so please come check it out.

This month I will have some extra free time so I'm looking forward to do more watercolor piece, I got some few sketches done but still working on the composition, hopefully I'll finish enough samples so I can open commission to the community.

SacAnime preview

This weekend I'll be at SacAnime in Sacramento!

It'll be my first time visting the capital city of California, but I don't think I'll be doing any sight seeings, still excited tho!

New Piece

I should be getting ready for SacAnime, I know it's still 2 weeks away but since I can't really do much prepping during the weekdays, I gotta start writing things down so I know what I need to pack for the con.

Last week the new evolution form for Pokemon was announced, it sure looks exciting and unexpected.  I started doing some sketches and decided to make a print, just because :P

I'll start making prints and bring them with me to Sac end of this month~

One Piece commission

Here's another commission that I'm working on this week.

It's a character from One Piece, I actually have never watched the show so it was interesting to do something different.  Fortunately I was given enough reference pictures :)

Sketches in the beginning to figure out poses and expression, it's a snake so it's a bit limited in terms of pose...

stamps and postcards

Over the weekend I got some new stamps, so now I'm back in postcrossing!

 

while the international forever stamp is easy and convenient, I still like adding different stamps on to the card.  I'm not a stamp collector but I do enjoy looking at it :) so I think others will like it too.

Speaking of postcards, I'm finally done with the eeveelution theme cards!

It's being printed right now and they should be up and in my store next week.

Poliwhirl commission

Here's another commission I did today, it's Poliwhirl!

I actually have been wanting to do this for a while now, I thought about the composition for a good amount of time, and I finally get to do it! Thanks for requesting it :)

It's a 4 x 6 piece, so there are more space than a ACEO card, I filled it up pretty much with hydrangea / Ajisai flowers, which took me awhile to do! But I can't imagine doing the same piece on a smaller canvas XD 

This time I worked my way up, literally.  I know there aren't any absolute rule about painting, but usually we don't do it from the bottom...with detail.  I guess this one is an odd case?  

Raikou Commission

I did this during the Anime Expo weekend, finally got some time to blog about this!

It's a Raikou, one of the legendary beasts from 2nd gen.  I wanted to try a different method on this piece, simply wanted to see if I can get softer look that blends better in the background (I was going for a cloud / smoke look).  So I used watercolor first, got some light colored layers on the back, and then after it's dried I added the colored pencil for refine and detail.

Just in case you were wondering, this is a picture of the south hall (exhibit hall / artist alley).  We were close to the back...

 Oh! The gachapon machine was a huge hit, we actually ran out of buttons!

It's definitely my goal to make all the pokemon into buttons, so perhaps few months later I'll have a bunch Gen 5 and 6 pins available, gotta start drawing!

Anime Expo goods preview

One of the biggest conventions of the year is just around the corner, this 4th of July weekend is all about Anime Expo! It's going to be so crazy! 

I have several new big prints that will only be available at the con, so please come check it out :)

and here is the preview of all the goods that I'll have at AX, there are bunch more stuff and I just can't fit everything here, but basically it's the same from Fanime, with a few new things added ;)
